Description
Netherlands’ foreign policy has evolved considerably in the last 15 years to recognize environmental degradation as one of the global threats to security. One of the eight main goals of current Dutch foreign policy is to protect and improve the environment.
The 2006 Foreign Policy Agenda emphasizes the links between peace, security and stability as prerequisites for poverty reduction and commits Dutch development cooperation to promoting stability in post-conflict situations. Also the Dutch government has launched several initiatives that would help in achieving peace and security. The Stability Fund, for example, is an important instrument that enables both ODA and non-ODA funds to be used to solve problems at the junction of security and development.
