Description
The European Climate Foundation is an institution established in 2008 and focused on activities aimed at the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. Its main activity is the re-granting of funds to activities fighting climate change. It has a staff of 20 people budget of EUR 10 million in 2008 expected to double in 2009.
ECF activities cover mainly six different areas:
� power generation
� energy efficiency
� clean transportation
� European climate policy
� EU role in international diplomacy
� Capacity building
Different from other similar institutions ECF aims at getting feedbacks and results in short term periods.
ECF is part of a global partnership called Climate Works which is working through regional foundations on the promotion of climate friendly initiatives. These are strategic and fundraising tasks.
ECF is also working with international negotiators on different areas, such as mitigation, adaptation, carbon finance and deforestation.
ECF does not deal with commercial investments and it is not involved in the carbon markets or green investment scheme.
