Description
Project COBRA is an initiative that was created to better understand the cross‐scalar and interdisciplinary impacts of emerging global policies at the local level in the Guiana Shield region.
Project COBRA recognises that community‐owned solutions to ecosystem service management do not exist in a vacuum. The Project demonstrates that existing environmental policies do no necessarily address the full interests of communities, and may therefore not create the desired impacts they set out to achieve. The Project explores the application of system viability to a cross‐scalar analysis of community, regional social‐ecological system and REDD+ policy viability. In turn, this may offer a means by which local communities, regional, national and international initiatives might be able to better integrate into the new incentive based approaches in current international environment and development frameworks.
