Environmental State-Change in the Arctic Ocean

Ecologic Institute co-convened the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on "Environmental Security in the Arctic Ocean" in Cambridge, England, on 14 to 17 September 2010. R. Andreas Kraemer of Ecologic Institute introduced and moderated the session entitled "Environmental State-Change in the Arctic Ocean" on the consequences of environmental change for security.

The Cambridge NATO Arctic Workshop was part of a joint project with the Scott Polar Research Institute of Cambridge University and the Legal Department of the Council for the Study of Productive Resources of the Russian Academy of Sciences, sponsored by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme (SPS). The proceedings will be published as a book on the prevention of conflicts in relation to scarcity of resources, and threats to environmental security with implications for economic, cultural and political instability.
