ECOSOC Resolution 2003/27: Illicit trafficking in protected species of wild flora and fauna

Description

In ECOSOC Resolution 2003/27, the ECOSOC urged Member States to cooperate with UNODC (as well as with the secretariats of CITES and the CBD) with a view to preventing, combating and eradicating trafficking in protected species of wild fauna and flora. This ECOSOC resolution also encouraged Member States to adopt, where necessary, preventive measures together with a review of their criminal legislation in order to ensure that the serious nature of these offences relating to trafficking in protected species is punishable by appropriate penalties.
