Description

Maastricht University is university located in the south of the Netherlands in the city of Maastricht. Created in 1976 the univeristy offers both Bachelor and Master degrees to students. In 2013 the university had 15,671 students of which 47% were foreign students. Its strategy between 2012 and 2016 is: 

  • They are a Dutch university with a foundation in Limburg and a particular role for the south of Netherlands and its neighbours in the Euregion. By joining forces with the Province of Limburg, the cities and the private and economic sector, they aim to be a leader in the economic, societal, demographic and infrastructural development of this region.
  • They are and will continue to be the most international university in the Netherlands, making their students fit for the challenges of the European and global knowledge society.
  • They will be a true network university, linking and collaborating with other knowledge institutions, regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • They will continue to be an innovator in the educative process, building upon their motto ‘leading in learning’ and combining it with socially relevant, focused research.
  • As a research university based on educational excellence, they will be the gateway for international mobility of knowledge, students and staff to the Netherlands.
  • They will be a bastion for openness, freedom of thought and freedom of speech, as well as a leader in the fight for justice.
  • And, last but not least, They will be the academic core of this region by being at the centre of interaction between culture, knowledge, economy and societal needs.
